This account by Sodhi Harbhajan Singh (my grandfather) was shared by Bhai Kulbir Singh on Gurmatbibtek.
Recounted by Pitajee (as my grandfather was known to us), this story is about a British police captain who was ordered to handle a peaceful protest by the Akalis at Gurdwara Bhai Pheru in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1924. Despite using various methods to gather information about the protesters, including physical torture, the protesters refused to disclose their worldly father’s name, instead naming Siri Guru Gobind Singh as their father and Sri Anandpur Sahib as their village. Overwhelmed by their non-violent resolve, the police captain resigned and wrote a resignation letter acknowledging the strength and pride of the Sikhs.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new YouTube series on our channel, that will take you on a journey through time and spirituality. This series features cleaned-up audio recordings from 1991, made by my grandfather, Sodhi Harbhajan Singh Ji, the renowned author of “Bhajan Bandagi da Pratap”. These recordings were made in a weekly interactive katha setting in Chandigarh, India, a regular feature in our family home that brought together people from all walks of life.
In this series, we will be sharing cleaned-up audio recordings from these weekly katha gatherings, offering a rare opportunity to experience the wisdom and teachings of my grandfather and the Sikh community. Originally recorded on audio tape, these were transcoded to CDs back in the early 2000s by my uncle (Tayaji). It seemed that in so doing, the tempo/BPM were compromised, and even though we ripped them to MP3 in the early 2010s, making them available as-is diluted the effect of the recordings. However, under the expert eye of my father, Sodhi Jas Desh Singh Ji, we have tried to clean up the ambient noise and reduce the tempo to match my grandfather’s tone and timbre.
As of 26th August 2024, two out of the ten recordings are on YouTube. I will endeavor to publish one each week.
We hope that these recordings will inspire, guide, and nurture spiritual growth and understanding in all who listen.

Merely with the induction of a new Member viz., my wife Mrs Rekha /Brijesh Sodhi, a great pleasant transformation within the family took place. A routine Birthday of my revered Father, our Head of Family settled in different parts of the country, turned into a ‘Unification Day’ for the entire Family.
The photograph of this first such occasion was taken by myself on 04 June,1978 i.e., less than a month after our marriage. In fact, this became the ‘take-off’ date of this very ‘Unification Day’ !! We were newly married and on her initiative decided to celebrate this Day every year with our parents in Chandigarh with ‘Pita Jee and Bijee’ as a family ‘Unifying Day’.
Every year without any exception both of us with children took leave for this day and travelled with the Birthday Cake and sweets from Delhi to Chandigarh. Every year the participation increased and other members of the Family joined. Slowly a number of other families close to the Family also started joining. All this continued for around 15 years till the time both ‘Pita and Bijee’ shed off their humanly bodies.
Fortunately the Birthday celebrations on this ‘Unification Day’ continue till date, though in different parts of the world, and looking at the present enthusiasm within His entire Family, comprising of children, grand and great grand children, with the Grace of the Lord of White Hawks – the Almighty – may continue for centuries to come.

This site has been down for nearly a year as I tried to get my head around VPS and Home ESXi Servers. This domain has long been my scratchpad on which to try new and novel ideas.
Finally, I am back online with the new and improved Sodhis.net. It is now being served up from my closet in Florida. In order to give some semblance to the number of sites that I host now, I’ve switched them by purpose and audience.
Jas Desh Singh Sodhi recently attended the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of one of the nations prestigious Architectural colleges, Chandigarh College of Architecture or CCA in Chandigarh, India. JDS Sodhi, our father studied here from 1964 – 1969, and his site has been updated with an additional shot of nostalgia – more high quality, scanned pictures of his friends and of his fun college life back in the ’60s.
Some impressions of the 50th anniversary of CCA have also been uploaded. As always feel free to contact him at [email protected] with any comments or impressions.
Rissa and I worked hard on that one – well worked hard a couple of hours, one afternoon before our wedding. But here it is, back online! http://weddinginvite.sodhis.net
